‘TIS THE SEASON FOR RESOLUTIONS. Come January it seems like we’re all looking for a new perspective and a fresh start. While goals can be great, the truth is we often get overwhelmed, forgetful, or discouraged.
Here are two ways to MINDSHIFT your resolutions:
1. EMOTIONS VS. GOALS
How would you like to feel all year? What is your desired state of being this year? As your goals form, ideas arise, and plans are made this year, ask yourself what emotions best represent these goals? In other words, what feeling(s) do you believe your goals will provide you? Use these emotional anchors to remind yourself what is most important to you and why you are embarking on this journey in the first place. Use these anchors when you’re faced with challenges or have to make decisions. That way, if your plans change, as they often do, you can anchor yourself with what matters most: your emotional goals. This approach will help you focus on your desired state of being and make more intentional decisions.
Try this…
- What are the three emotions, states of being, or feelings that you want to maintain all year?
- Everyday, reconnect to these anchors, their intention and make decisions, plans, and act in ways to support these emotional goals.
- Try our Free “Leadership Code” to discover your authentic leadership style to use as your anchor.
2. RECOMMIT TO THE THINGS YOU ARE DOING RIGHT
Resolutions don’t have to be a total overhaul of your life. They can be an acknowledgement of what you are doing right and a recommitment to those activities. Support your achievements, no matter how small you may think they are. If we take on challenges without acknowledging what we have already accomplished, we make it easier to become overwhelmed and discouraged. This approach allows you to focus on what is working, and gives you space to stretch where you want to grow.
Try this…
- What is something you love that you are currently doing, and want to recommit to this year?
- What is something you love and have done in the past, but have let slide and want to recommit to this year?
- What is something you have always wanted to do, but have yet to do, and want to try this year?
Did you gain any new perspectives on your resolutions? We would love to hear from you!
